College Hill Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation was awarded a $10,000 grant this week from the PNC Foundation for the College Hill Facade Improvement Program to help revitalize the Hamilton Avenue area business district.

The Façade Improvement Program was started in 2006. The first round of improvements included over $400,000 of renovations. Examples of improvements included adding lighting and awnings, brick cleaning and tuck-pointing, improving signage, replacing or repairing storefronts, doors, windows, cornices, etc, and painting and paint removal from existing brick.

The 2014-2015 program will assist at least 18 businesses including College Hill Coffee Company, Rasheedah’s Café, and Inspire Salon and Boutique. The program will provide up to 80% of the funds to pay for the façade improvement for each business.
“Our community is grateful to PNC for giving us the opportunity to continue the great work going on in College Hill,” said CHCURC’s president Michael Cappel. “The façade improvement program is key to the economic revitalization of Hamilton Avenue.”
